This morning was a tough one to bear... 2 mile hike out into the desert... total cloud cover that blocked any sunrise... a blistering wind lasting 40mins which I endured from atop the highest dune (smart I know)... and then the sun came out... oh, and the wind died down! I converted this image to black and white to emphasize the contrast of light and shade. I really like the way this shot almost skips from one dune to the next, until you reach the final dune right at the end of the shot.
The Eiffel Tower is one the most photographed architectural sites in the world. There are usually hundreds of people milling about this scene… but the morning of New Year's would test the average tourists resolve to get up early to catch the sunrise. I so I decided to do just that… and managed to capture this quiet scene as the sun rose behind the clouds. This is a single, 36MP image, taken with a Sony A7r and Canon 16-35mm L lens.
I contemplated whether to title this "Piece of Fall" or "Peace of Fall". In truth, both would work. This picture was taken at the start of the largest Aspen forest I've ever seen... so although this is actually an 18 shot, 260 megapixel image, it is still only represents a very small piece of the incredible Fall landscapes I was treated to. But if you look long enough at this image, I think you'll land on the same choice as I did... it's pure magic... and peaceful... and so many other things too!
